Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Laurel Heights United Methodist Church is a wonderful old church and I am proud to serve as senior pastor here. As we celebrated our Centennial last year, I was reminded of the Christian heritage that has been passed down to us by faith-filled men and women who loved God and cherished the traditional Methodist style of worship. As many United Methodist churches in our area have changed to a more contemporary style of worship, Laurel Heights has remained traditional in the Wesleyan style. At Laurel Heights, we offer music opportunities for adults, youth and children in voice choirs and we have handbells for youth and adults. For those who do enjoy contemporary worship, we have a Sunday evening service called The Connection, which is very informal and takes place in the fellowship hall. We share a time of fellowship and supper at 5:30. The service then begins at 6:00. Each service provides a time of contempory-style praise and worship and the celebration of Holy Communion. Associate Pastor Raquel C. Feagins is usually on the schedule to preach.
On Wednesday evenings, we enjoy a catered meal in the fellowship hall at 5:30. Many folks stay for worship at 6:15 in Scott Chapel where the 45 or so who currently attend mid-week worship can partake in close, intimate worship. Holy Communion is served each Wednesday at worship. The last Wednesday of the month is usually a service of healing with Holy Communion.
On Sunday mornings, we have an 8:30 service (no choir) in the sanctuary followed by fellowship time in the fellowship hall at 9:30, morning classes for all ages start at 9:45 and worship (with choirs) begins in the sanctuary at 11:00. No words can truly express the blessing of being in worship on Sunday mornings as our choirs raise their voices in praise to God and Geoffrey moves both hands and feet to resonate praise and honor to God from our magnificent Redman pipe organ. You just have to hear these for yourself.
When you visit us at the church, please let me know that you first found us by visiting our website. I look forward to meeting you in person and extending a warm welcome and God bless.
